Third umpire in Sri Lanka vs. BAN ruling on Soumya Sarkar's caught out

The umpiring decision on the wicket of Soumya Sarkar was quite controversial. During the 14th over of the second T20 match played between Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka on March 7, Soumya played a shot off the ball of Wanindu Hasaranga. The ball took the edge of the bat and went straight into the gloves of the wicketkeeper. After this the on-field umpire signaled out but the third umpire gave not out.

Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the second T20 match and leveled the series 1-1. In the first T20 match, Sri Lanka won the match by three runs. After this, Sri Lanka made a strong comeback in the second match.

Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 165 runs at the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. In response, Bangladesh won the match by 8 wickets with 11 balls remaining. In this match, controversy has arisen due to the catch out of Soumya Sarkar during Bangladesh’s innings.

Third umpire gave not out on Soumya Sarkar’s catch out

Actually, the umpiring decision on the wicket of Soumya Sarkar was quite controversial. In the second T20 match played between Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka (BAN vs SL) on March 7, Soumya played a shot off the ball of Wanindu Hasaranga during the 14th over. The ball took the edge of the bat and went straight into the gloves of the wicketkeeper.

After this the on-field umpire signaled out. Then Bangladesh team took DRS. The third umpire saw through UltraEdge technology that there were signs of edge of the bat, but despite this the third umpire took a decision against the on-field umpire and declared Soumya not out. This decision enraged the Sri Lankan players and the matter quickly became a topic of discussion on social media.

Let us tell you that at that time Soumya was batting on 14 runs in 10 balls. He was out after scoring 26 runs in 22 balls. Soumya hit five fours in his innings. Bangladesh got off to a good start while chasing 166 runs. There was a partnership of 68 runs for the first wicket between Liton and Soumya and after this Nazmul scored 53 runs. Haridoye played an inning of 32 runs and thus Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the second T20.
