The GSR 870 rule of the Government of India will be used by Skoda Auto for the recall of the Superb. These rules allow vehicle manufacturers to import a total of 2500 units per year without homologation. Prices will increase with the sedan now being a full import and its retail price is expected to be around ₹43 lakh.
Skoda Auto India may re-launch the previous generation Superb in India. According to recent reports, the Skoda Superb will make a comeback on April 3, 2024. The flagship Skoda sedan was discontinued in April last year due to the BS6 Phase 2 emission norms. It will now be sold as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) instead of the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route.
Only limited units of Superb will be sold
GSR 870 rule of Government of India will be used by Skoda Auto. Automakers are permitted to import 2,500 units annually without requiring homologation under these regulations. Skoda had implemented this rule earlier also when it brought the Karoq mid-size SUV in limited numbers. It will now apply the same to the previous-generation Superb, which is expected to come in a single top-spec Laurin & Klement variant.
ADAS will increase safety
The Skoda Superb can now come with ADAS as standard, which includes features like lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control and park assist. To give it power, the engine has been updated as per BS6 Phase 2 emission norms.
Potential price
The Superb was previously priced competitively between ₹34 lakh and ₹37.29 lakh when the model was locally assembled in India. However, with the sedan now being a full import, prices will increase and its retail price is expected to be closer to ₹43 lakh. This will make it more expensive than the Skoda Kodiaq SUV, which has recently received a price cut.
