Pakistan Bomb Blast Raises Security Concerns 8 Days Ahead of General Elections in Balochistan

A major bomb blast occurred in the Balochistan province of Pakistan eight days before the national elections. This explosion claimed three lives and injured five more. A big explosion happened in the Pakistani province of Balochistan. This terrorist act was carried out in Sibi, Balochistan. The blast killed three persons and injured five more. According to police, the terrorist incident occurred on the city’s Jinnah Road.

General elections are to be held on 8th February

Dr. Shahid, the Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital, reported that three injured patients are in critical condition. The hospital declared an emergency following the incident. At the same time, police security procedures in the affected districts have been tightened.

Balochistan Information Minister expressed concern over this incident Sibi Deputy Commissioner Khuda-e-Rahim confirmed that the blast occurred when a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally was passing through the city.

Nazir Achakzai, a spokesperson for the PTI in Balochistan, confirmed the deaths of three party workers in the blast that targeted one of its candidates’ gatherings. Acting Balochistan Information Minister Jan Achakzai reacted to the incident and offered his sympathies to the victims’ families.

‘The attack aims to discourage the provincial government from holding elections’

The minister said the upcoming elections would be held as scheduled, adding that the attack was aimed at discouraging the provincial government from holding elections. Taking cognizance of the incident, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has sought a report from the provincial police chief. Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces have seen a sharp increase in terrorist attacks in the last few months.
