To increase the firepower of Indian Army soldiers, the Defense Ministry has approved the proposal to purchase about 6400 rockets for the Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher System. This proposal of Rs 2800 crore has been approved in the recent meeting of the Defense Acquisition Council of the Defense Ministry. This deal is being considered important given the tension on the border.
Procurement will be done from indigenous sources
Giving information about this, Defense Ministry sources said that in a recent meeting of the Defense Ministry, the proposal for the acquisition of two types of rockets was approved. These rockets are known as Area Denial Munition Type-2 and Type-3. These will be procured through indigenous sources. The companies from which the Indian Army will purchase this rocket include Economic Explosives Limited of Solar Industries and Munitions India Limited.

Pinaka Mk-I is an upgraded rocket system, which has been successfully tested several times in the past. These rocket systems have been developed based on DRDO technology. The Pinaka Mk-I rocket system has a range of approximately 45 kilometers. At the same time, the range of the Pinaka-II rocket system is 60 kilometers. This rocket system has been jointly designed by two laboratories of DRDO, the Armament High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) and the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE).
