India recorded their second 10-wicket win in a men’s T20I today (July 13), chasing down 153 in 15.2 overs in the fourth match of the series against Zimbabwe. This victory gave India a 3-1 series lead with one game left to play.

India’s Dominance in Harare

India’s young stars put on a dominating display against Zimbabwe to clinch the series. Opting to field first in Harare, India saw Zimbabwe’s opening pair put up 63 runs in 8.3 overs before Abhishek Sharma dismissed Tadiwanashe Marumani for a 31-ball 32. Zimbabwe finished their innings at 152-7, with skipper Sikandar Raza scoring a quick 46 off 28 balls, including two fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 164.29.

Jaiswal Shines in the Chase

Yashasvi Jaiswal, a left-hander who was instrumental in India’s victory in the Twenty20 World Cup, got the chase off quickly, smashing 31 off only 13 balls. Shubman Gill, who was at 13 off 10 at first, rediscovered his groove and went from 22 in 18 balls to 37 in 23 balls by the tenth over. He got his fifty in 29 balls. After smashing two sixes and thirteen fours in 53 balls, Jaiswal finished undefeated at 93 off 53 balls, while Gill went on to register his second consecutive fifty in 35 balls.

It was only the sixth time that an opening duo in Twenty20 Internationals scored more than 150 runs, thanks to Jaiswal and Gill’s undefeated 156-run partnership. It also became India’s second-highest run-chase partnership, after only their 165-run stand against the West Indies the previous year.

India’s triumph was their second 10-wicket triumph in Twenty20 Internationals; their first was against Zimbabwe in 2016, when they managed to chase down 100 runs without losing a wicket.

Only four other teams have previously managed to chase a target of more than 150 runs without conceding a wicket. In the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final, England pursued 169 without losing a wicket, and in the 2021 edition, Pakistan chased 152. Both of those incidents were against India.

Upcoming Match

On Sunday, July 14, India and Zimbabwe will play their sixth Twenty20 International.
