Obesity raises the risk of several illnesses dramatically, many of which are lethal. The Cleveland Clinic states that when the body is unable to burn calories, they start to build up as fat. However, when the body runs out of space in adipose tissue, or body fat, fat cells start to swell, which causes an increase in inflammation and hormonal imbalance. These factors raise the chance of contracting illnesses.

Obesity causes the body to expand more, which has an impact on our blood vessels as well. The strain on the blood vessels causes the blood pressure to rise. Elevated blood pressure significantly raises the risk of heart disease since it is extremely detrimental to the heart. In addition, obesity raises cholesterol levels and has the potential to clog arteries. Because of this, there is still a very significant risk of heart attack and stroke.

Diabetes

Due to obesity, the risk of increasing blood sugar level becomes much higher than others. Obesity increases inflammation in the body, which increases insulin resistance. Due to increased insulin resistance, the body is not able to use insulin properly and the sugar level starts increasing significantly. Because of this the risk of diabetes increases manifold.

Fatty liver

Due to obesity, extra fat starts accumulating in the liver, due to which the risk of inflammation and fatty liver increases significantly. If this problem is not treated for a long time, it can also cause liver cirrhosis. Due to this, liver gets damaged and can also take the form of cancer.

Arthritis

Due to weight gain, there is a lot of stress on the joints. Due to excessive pressure the bones start wearing. Also, due to obesity, swelling in the joints also increases, due to which pain in the bones starts. This is called arthritis. Usually this happens with increasing age because the bones gradually become weak, but due to obesity, the risk increases even at a young age.

Sleep apnea

Obesity causes an increase in body fat that builds up across the entire body. There may occasionally be trouble sleeping through the night due to extra fat in the throat. This is because fat begins to obstruct the airway, a condition known as sleep apnea. With sleep apnea, breathing stops often during the night, making it difficult to fall asleep and preventing full sleep. The risk of heart disease also rises as a result.

Gallbladder stones

Due to obesity, cholesterol starts increasing in the body, which starts accumulating in the gall bladder. Due to this reason, problem of gallstones may occur. This causes a lot of pain and also causes digestive problems. Due to this, other diseases related to gall bladder can also occur.

Gout

Gout is a type of arthritis in which uric acid increases in the joints, due to which there is swelling and pain in the joints. Due to this reason there is a lot of difficulty in walking.

Cancer

According to Mayo Clinic, obesity increases the risk of many cancers, such as cervical, colon, rectum, ovary, breast, uterus, pancreatic and prostate cancer.

Depression

The risk of clinical depression and anxiety increases significantly due to obesity. The risk of depression increases significantly due to factors responsible for obesity, such as sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy foods etc.

Hypertension

Due to obesity, inflammation increases in the body, due to which the risk of blood pressure increases significantly. Also, due to increase in sugar level and cholesterol, the risk of increasing blood pressure also increases. The problem of high blood pressure is called hypertension. Due to this, there is a lot of pressure on the blood vessels and the risk of their bursting or clotting also increases.
