Peshawar High Court ordered to removal of the names of the wife and child of the doctor who captured terrorist Osama Bin Laden from the ECL. During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer told the court that Shakeel Afridi was sentenced to 23 years in the espionage case, after which the names of his wife and child were included in this list. Since then she has not been able to go anywhere.
Peshawar High Court has directed to remove the names of the wife and child of the doctor who helped the CIA in capturing Al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden from the Exit Control List (ECL). The single bench has given this order during the hearing of the petition of Imrana Shakeel, wife of Dr. Shakeel Afridi. ECL contains the names of those people who are banned from going out due to legal reasons.
Shakeel Afridi sentenced to 23 years in espionage case
During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer told the court that Shakeel Afridi was sentenced to 23 years in the espionage case, after which the names of his wife and child were included in this list. Since then she has not been able to go anywhere. The lawyer said that no crime has been proven against Imrana Shakeel yet nor has she been arrested.
Shakeel Afridi has been in jail since 2011
Dr. Shakeel Afridi has been in jail since 2011. He is accused of helping the CIA capture al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in the city of Abbottabad.
Petitioner’s lawyer Arif Jan Afridi informed the court that his client has been arrested on charges of spying for the US.
