The semi-final match of Ranji Trophy 2024 is being played between Mumbai and Tamil Nadu. Shreyas Iyer returned to the Mumbai team but his performance was very poor. Shreyas Iyer returned to the pavilion after scoring only 3 runs. Iyer has been surrounded by a lot of controversies these days because he was dropped from the central contract by BCCI due to not playing domestic matches.

It has been a nightmare for Mumbai to see Shreyas Iyer’s Ranji Trophy comeback. After making three runs in just eight balls, the top batsman went back to the pavilion. Sandeep Warrier clean bowled Shreyas Iyer, who has been the subject of controversy for a while.

As you may know, Shreyas Iyer just lost his position as BCCI’s central contract holder, forcing him to participate in his first competitive match. Iyer was included in the Indian team for the first two Test matches against England, but his poor performance earned him a dismissal.

Shreyas Iyer lost his contract

Iyer had complained of stiffness in the groin and waist. However, BCCI did not give his fitness update then. According to PTI report, Shreyas Iyer was dropped from the team due to poor performance and BCCI did not give any update regarding his injury.

“The BCCI medical team would have informed about it if Shreyas Iyer had been rested due to injury,” the insider had claimed. It is believed that he has been shown the way out of the team because there has been no update.

Bad condition of Mumbai

At 91/4, though, the Mumbai team was having trouble until Shreyas Iyer entered the field. After Warrior clean bowled Iyer, Mumbai’s total was 96/5. Let us inform you that, after losing 7 wickets in 51 overs until lunch on the second day, Mumbai managed to score 121 runs in reply to Tamil Nadu’s 146 runs in the first innings. Shardul Thakur, eight, and Hardik Tamora, eight, are playing with runs.

Let us tell you that R Sai Kishore, the skipper of Tamil Nadu, was Mumbai’s largest source of headaches. As of the time this story was written, he had claimed five wickets. During his 20-over performance, the left-arm spinner claimed five wickets for 31 runs, including seven maidens, and added excitement to the game. With three wickets left, the Mumbai side is currently 25 runs behind Tamil Nadu’s total.
