Fasting: A Symbol of Devotion

One of the most significant aspects of Hartalika Teej is the daylong fast observed by women. They show their devotion to the significance of the celebration by keeping this fast without food or water. Women keep this fast either in hopes of finding a committed and caring mate or to protect the health and life of their husbands. Their deep statement of faith and desire for a happy married life is the fast.

Temples and residences on Hartalika Teej are exquisitely adorned with oil lights, flowers, and incense. In order to obtain the blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for a peaceful and happy marriage, women engage in pujas, or rituals, in their honor. This custom entails erecting clay statues of the heavenly pair and making prayers, many of which involve reciting passages from holy books and carrying out customs.

Swings and Singing: Celebrating with Joy

The event also features vibrant cultural activities. Women love to sing traditional folk songs and adorn swings, especially young girls. This vibrant feature of the event enhances the happy and festive environment, mirroring the companionship and delight experienced by all attendees. The swinging and singing represent Hartalika Teej’s lively and carefree nature.

Hartalika Teej 2024: Key Details

Date and Auspicious Timing

Hartalika Teej is observed on Friday, September 6, in 2024. The event is held on Shukla Paksha Tritiya in the month of Bhadrapada. There is a window of two hours and thirty-one minutes in the morning between 6:03 and 8:34 that is ideal for doing the Hartalika Puja. September 5 at 12:21 PM and September 6 at 3:01 PM is when the Tritiya Tithi starts.

Pujan Materials and Preparation

For the puja, devotees typically erect clay statues of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Shiva. For the devotion, you’ll need a new yellow cloth, a banana leaf, roli, janeu, betel nut, shami leaves, belpatra, urn, akshat, durva, ghee, camphor, curd, and Gangajal. Goddess Parvati is also embellished with mehndi, bindi, vermillion, bangles, and kumkum. By presenting these objects at the puja, women ask for blessings so that their desires may come true. It’s also encouraged for them to give lucky charms to their mothers-in-law.

Hartalika Teej Remedies

  1. For Early Marriage: Recite the shlokas related to the marriage of Shiva and Parvati from the Ramcharitmanas daily on Hartalika Teej. This practice is believed to help in finding a suitable partner.
  2. For a Happy Married Life: Plant a basil (tulsi) plant at home and worship it every morning. This remedy is thought to bring happiness and peace to one’s married life.

The Sacred Story of Hartalika Teej

The indisputable devotion of Goddess Parvati is the source of Hartalika Teej. Legend has it that Parvati, the daughter of King Himavan, had a passionate love for Lord Shiva. Parvati made the decision to devote her life to Shiva instead of fulfilling her father’s intention for her to wed Lord Vishnu. She was sent to a forest by a friend to complete her severe atonement after escaping her father’s confines. Lord Shiva was eventually impressed by her devotion and agreed to make her his consort. The core of Hartalika Teej, where women commemorate Parvati’s devotion via prayer, fasting, and ceremonies, is this narrative of her commitment.

Hartalika Teej is more than just a festival; it is a celebration of love, commitment, and cultural history. Ladies desire to honor their commitment to their spouses and strengthen their unions by following customs and traditions. Apart from commemorating the adoration of Goddess Parvati, the occasion brings families and communities together in joyous celebration.
