Toll free helpline number
The Home Ministry said that a helpline number will soon be launched to assist applicants for Indian citizenship under CAA. In such a situation, to get information related to CAA-2019, applicants will be able to call the toll-free number from anywhere in India. However, this facility will be available from 8 am to 8 pm.

What is the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)?
The Citizenship Amendment Act came into force across the country. In fact, by amending the Citizenship Amendment Act, 1955, the government had prepared a big way for illegal immigrants from Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist and Christian communities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The government introduced this bill in the Lok Sabha on December 9, 2019 and the Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on the same day.
Two days after it was passed in the Lok Sabha, it was approved by the Rajya Sabha on December 11, 2019, and the President’s approval was received the very next day.
