The French Parliament has passed the immigration bill. Left parties have accused the government of bowing to pressure from the far right. France’s far-right leader Marine Le Pen supported the bill but key leftist members of Macron’s Renaissance party and allies signaled they could no longer support it.
The French Parliament on Tuesday passed the immigration bill supported by the government of President Emmanuel Macron. The lower house voted in favor of this bill with a wide majority.
The upper house, the Senate, has already passed this bill.
Le Pen supported the bill
Left parties have accused the government of bowing to pressure from the far right. France’s far-right leader Marine Le Pen supported the bill but key leftist members of Macron’s Renaissance Party and allies signaled they could no longer support it.
Many ministers have reportedly threatened to resign regarding this bill. Marine Le Pen may run for president again in 2027.
Prominent left-leaning Renaissance MP Sacha Holley has said he will vote against the law and called on others to follow it, with some sources saying about 30 pro-Macro MPs will do so.

After the bill was passed, Health Minister Aurelien Rousseau, Higher Education Minister Sylvie Retailleau, and Housing Minister Patrice Vergite met Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and warned she could resign, sources told the news agency.
