In a tweet, Musk criticized Google’s AI efforts, suggesting that the technology’s flaws were evident in Gemini’s biased and unreliable data and image generation.
Elon Musk, who is always in the news for his words, has been commenting about Google AI for the past few days. Continuing in the same vein, Elon Musk, owner of companies like SpaceX and Tesla, has targeted Google’s chatbot, Gemini, and accused AI of reflecting the biases and mistakes of its creators.
In a recent tweet, Musk criticized Google’s AI efforts, suggesting that the technology’s flaws were evident in Gemini’s biased and unreliable data and image generation.
He also said that the sheer insanity of Google’s AI’s actual reaction is shocking! They’ll fix it to be less obvious in the future, but the bias will still be there, with AI reflecting the mistakes of its creators.
Honesty in AI development
Musk added that Facebook, Instagram, and Google had a strong political bias in another article in which he again accused the companies of being politically biased. Musk voiced his worries about the possible repercussions of artificial intelligence taking over the globe. He also emphasized the significance of being truthful and honest when developing AI.
Gemini was criticized after Google decided to halt the chatbot’s image generation tool amid allegations of racism.
Many allegations against Google
The chatbot faced criticism for being ‘too aware’ and being ‘racist’, after which Google CEO Sundar Pichai acknowledged the issue and said that the company got it wrong.
Minister of State for Skill Development Rajeev Chandrashekhar also stressed on the matter and highlighted the legal consequences associated with platforms providing or portraying illegal content.
Minister Chandrashekhar tweeted that no platform provides complete security or a free pass to illegal content. Platforms that provide or directly describe illegal content face legal consequences under existing laws (both criminal and technical laws).
Google apologized
The controversy adds to the scrutiny of Google’s AI products, which has led to a notice being issued by the government over allegations of bias in questions related to Prime Minister Modi.
While Google apologized for Gemini’s unreliable results, it claimed to have worked quickly to fix the problem.
The tech giant’s struggles in the AI sector have been further compounded by setbacks in product rollouts, with Google’s parent company, Alphabet, facing a market value loss of over US$100 billion in February 2023 due to inaccuracies in its Gemini chatbot ads. The competition with OpenAI has further increased the pressure on Google to deliver stronger AI solutions.
