Defense Ministry signs deal worth Rs 8073 crore with HAL for purchase of 34 Dhruv MK-3 helicopters

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) had given its approval to these two procurement projects last week. The ministry said that 34 Dhruv MK-3 helicopters have proven their performance in high altitude areas like Siachen Glacier and Ladakh. It is useful for both water and land. The ICG version of the Dhruv Mk-3 is also designed for maritime surveillance, rescue and troop transportation.

The Defense Ministry on Wednesday signed two joint contracts worth Rs 8073 crore with Advanced Light Helicopter (HAL). Under this contract, 34 Dhruv MK-3 helicopters and other equipment will be acquired for the Indian Army and Coast Guard. Among the helicopters purchased under this agreement, the Army will get 25 helicopters and the Coast Guard will get nine helicopters.

The ministry said that this helicopter has proved its capability even in adverse atmospheric conditions at sea and on land. It said the project would generate an estimated 190 lakh hours of employment over its duration. In addition, equipment from more than 200 micro, small, and medium-sized businesses will be supplied, and 70 local suppliers will take part in the indigenization process. In addition, the Defense Ministry and Armored Vehicles Corporation Limited (AVNL) inked a contract for the purchase of 693 Infantry Combat Vehicle BMP-II to BMP2M weaponry upgrades.
