Although thousands of workers were laid off by corporations during the epidemic, this process is still ongoing. In April 2024, a number of the biggest corporations in the world, including major firms like Apple, Google, and Tesla, will be laying off massive numbers of employees. Numerous corporations have eliminated thousands of positions. Over 70,000 workers have lost their employment in the computer industry thus far this fiscal year.

These companies laid off hundreds of employees

  • Apple said that it has made 614 layoffs, the first significant layoffs since the epidemic started.
  • It has been discovered that the impacted workers belonged to Apple’s special projects division, and some of them were involved in the now-canceled project involving self-driving cars.
  • Given that some workers who were employed overseas have also lost their employment, this figure may possibly be greater.
  • Several workers in the Python, Flutter, and Dart teams have been let go by Google.
  • A Google representative stated that the layoffs are a result of the company’s reorganization and that staff members are welcome to apply for other available positions.

Amazon and Ital also made layoffs

  • Additionally, hundreds of jobs in Amazon’s cloud computing sector are being eliminated, which will have an impact on the technology, sales, and marketing departments of physical locations.
  • Additionally, Intel made 62 layoffs at its Santa Clara, California, headquarters. The corporation began a fresh wave of layoffs in the marketing and sales division as part of a reorganization headed by Christoph Schell.
  • A separate layoff affecting employees from many Google divisions, including its finance and real estate units, occurred last month as the company reduced expenses.
  • Affected workers may seek to be considered for internal positions. A portion of the employment will be relocated to the company’s investment hubs in Chicago, Atlanta, Dublin, Atlanta, and India.
  • AWS let off several hundred workers in April, including those in technical, sales, and marketing positions.
  • Apart from this, the edtech startup Byju’s lay off nearly 500 workers, or roughly 3% of its staff, as a result of a funding shortfall and investor dissatisfaction.
  • Elon Musk’s firm that produces electric vehicles has also not been spared. Allow us to inform you that Tesla let go of thousands of workers across several departments.
  • About 200 workers, or 10% of Ola Cabs’ staff, are being let go. Hemant Bakshi, the CEO of Ola Cabs, left the company barely four months after assuming the role.
  • In addition, Whirlpool reduced its workforce by around 1,000 paid workers worldwide as part of its cost-cutting measures.
