Campaign to close mosques in China intensifies, know what is Xi Jinping’s plan

Mosques are being closed in China. China’s Xi Jinping government has intensified the campaign to close mosques. On the other hand, Human Rights Watch claims that China has been taking action against minority Muslims in Xinjiang for years. Authorities are removing architectural features from mosques to make them appear more Chinese.

China has stepped up its efforts to shut down mosques. He is currently running an anti-mosque campaign outside of the province of Xinjiang. claims that doing this is against the freedom of religion. Human Rights Watch reported that China has been targeting Muslims in Xinjiang who are a minority for a long time.

Mosques are closing in Gansu province

Chinese officials have started closing mosques in Gansu province and the northern region of Ningxia. This area is home to a sizable Hui Muslim population. It is based on satellite photos and openly available documents. These mosques are already having architectural elements removed by the local government to give them a more Chinese appearance.

More than 1.1 crore Muslims in Gansu

By dictating religion in the area, the Communist Party hopes to destroy any opposition to its rule. President Xi Jinping advocated for the “Sinicization” of religion in 2016, meaning that beliefs should be given a Chinese framework. This led to a crackdown that mostly affected Xinjiang’s western portion. Here, there are more than 11 million Uighurs and other Muslim minorities.

By exerting control over religion in the area, the Communist Party hopes to eliminate any potential rivals to its authority. President Xi Jinping advocated for the Sinicization of religion in 2016, which would mean giving religious ideas a Chinese framework. This led to an operation that was mostly concentrated on Xinjiang’s western area. Here, Uighurs and other Muslim minorities number over 11 million.

What does the UN report say?

China is allegedly committing crimes against humanity in Xinjiang, according to a UN report from last year. Under the pretence of educating and training them, he is torturing Muslim minorities in camps. These camps are thought to be home to over ten lakh members of the Kyrgyz, Hui, Kazakh, and Uyghur communities.

There is currently no comment from China’s Foreign Ministry on this report. Maya Wang, China’s acting director of Human Rights Watch, said that the Chinese government claims it is closing the same mosques that are violating religious freedom.
