After American Raquel Pennington defeated Brazilian Mayra Sheetara to win the bantamweight belt in the co-main event of UFC 297 on Saturday (20), Amanda Nunes emerged as a possible challenger for the new champion.
The former champion, who retired in 2023, spoke with the specialized press after the event and discussed how her retirement life is going after so much commitment. Amanda Nunes, who is married and has children, does not regret her decision because she is finally happy with her life.
I believe I made the correct decision by retiring and taking some time off. Take care of my children. I can’t leave Nina (his wife) alone with their two children. So far, I’m having a lot of fun with it. My entire life was spent battling, so I didn’t enjoy my 20s, which sped by. I’m 35, and I can finally return to Brazil to spend time with my friends and family and enjoy life, she said.
#UFC297 marks the first women’s bantamweight title fight WITHOUT Amanda Nunes since March 5, 2016 when Miesha Tate defeated Holly Holm at UFC 196 😳

Amanda Nunes’ return to the UFC? Perhaps…
Amanda Nunes was pleased with her life outside of the octagon seven months after her retirement was officially announced, but she did not rule out returning to it. The “Lioness” remarked that she is still young and in good health, but she is unsure about her future.
I’m still young and feeling fantastic. There is no way to know (what may happen). We have a lot of stuff to do. I need to learn a lot at home about what I’m going to do and see what happens. I honestly do not know. I’m a fighter, and that is my job. I’m not sure why I enjoy it here so much. I also enjoy not going to the gym every day and living a normal life, being at home and doing nothing. I can’t be lazy as a combatant. It is challenging. But I am still healthy, robust, and intelligent. I think like a champion. “I still feel like a champion, so we’ll see,” she exclaimed.
