The Union Health Ministry has advised states to ensure adequate testing, including RT-PCR tests in maximum numbers. At the same time, the government has asked the states to send positive samples to INSACOG laboratories for genome sequencing.

In a letter to states and union territories, Union Health Secretary Sudhansh Pant said that because of the sustained and collaborative work between the central and state governments, we have been able to contain COVID-19.

Pant said that recently, some states like Kerala have reported a slight increase in the number of Covid-19 cases. The first case of Covid sub-variant JN.1 in India was found in Kerala on December 8.
