The largest chip maker company continuously strives for its better performance. Companies already use buddy system to train their people. But this pattern has changed over time as geopolitical tensions and chip shortages have affected TSMC’s growth. Let us know about it.
TSMC has faced a lot of changes in the recent past. The world’s largest chip maker company, which used to use big systems to train new recruiters till a few years ago, has now changed its methods.
The change was made as the global chip shortage and rising geopolitical tensions impacted growth at TSMC. In such a situation, it was necessary that thousands of people had to be recruited to provide productivity as per the demand. In such a situation, it was necessary to change the way of training them.
How did the method change?
- As we have already told that earlier the company used buddy system to train its new recruiters, which gave them an opportunity to work and learn with senior engineers.
- But keeping in mind the needs and to bring thousands of new recruits to work quickly, the company needed to prepare a better training program.
- This led the company to establish a Newcomer Training Center in 2021 inside a giant science park in Taichung city, central Taiwan. This facility is now reaching the global level for the company.
Promote American manufacturing
- The idea that in a Moore’s Law world the number of transistors on microchips will double every two years. So, speed is of the essence for TSMC and its customers, which also include Apple, Nvidia and AMD. It also makes sense for US President Joe Biden, who is counting on the company to boost American manufacturing in Arizona.
- TSMC instructor Marcus Chen said that we can teach new people the right way. We can enable them to learn faster and build a solid foundation.
- It is the core value of TSMC that we have to do everything very efficiently. The center is based around the operation of a fabrication plant, called a fabs, where chips are made.
90% production of super-advanced semiconductors
- Once called the world’s most important company, TSMC produces an estimated 90% of the world’s super-advanced semiconductor chips.
- They are used to power everything from smartphones to artificial intelligence applications.
- To meet growing demand and cope with the pressure to be physically closer to its customers, TSMC is building new fabs in the United States, Japan and Germany.
- Last month the company opened its first fab in the Japanese city of Kumamoto and is set to open two $40 billion facilities in Phoenix, Arizona, in the coming years to make smaller, more advanced chips.
- It has said it will invest $3.8 billion to build a fab in Dresden, Germany, which is the company’s first fab in Europe.
