Apple takes up to 30% commission

The briefing demonstrates how far competitor companies and other major actors in the technology space want to push Apple to relinquish control over third-party software.

Apple takes commissions of up to 30% of purchases in the App Store for its services or a one-time fee, a rate developers say is too high.

Apple has defended its right to charge the fee and said it invests in privacy and security measures to protect users.

Epic Game filed a petition

Let us tell you that in January, Apple announced a plan to allow developers to make purchases from outside its App Store, but the company will charge 27% commission from software makers in such cases.

The new policy comes after the US Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal of a 2021 ruling that ordered Apple to require software makers to provide users with alternative ways to pay for services or apps outside the App Store. . Some of those options are cheaper for consumers.

Earlier this month, Epic filed a petition in the Northern California District Court asking US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, who oversaw the 2021 case, to enforce its decision.

Judge Rogers had previously said she would look at how Apple complied with her order and may decide to modify her ruling at some point.
