India and Australia will play the last match of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024 on Sunday in Benoni. This final match is similar to the Senior 2023 World Cup, in which Australia and India competed for the trophy.

The Australian team, captained by Pat Cummins, won the World Cup for the sixth time when they defeated India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India and Australia will meet for the second time in the ICC Under-19 World Cup final.

Australia was strong in 2012

Earlier, there was a clash between India and Australia in the 2012 Under-19 World Cup final. The Kangaroo team had entered the knockout stage after remaining undefeated in the group stage. Then it entered the finals by defeating Bangladesh and South Africa in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.

India is also not behind

At the same time, the Indian team had to suffer a 4-wicket defeat at the hands of West Indies in its first match of the tournament. After this, he won all the remaining matches. India made it to the finals by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in the quarter-finals and New Zealand in the semi-finals.

The coin tossed in favor of India in the final

The Indian team won the toss for the first time in the Under-19 World Cup Final 2012 and decided to bowl. Sandeep Sharma, with his amazing swing, dismissed Australian openers Cameron Bancroft and Jimmy Pearson within the first three overs. Kamal Pasi was conceding runs from the other side.

Then Indian captain Unmukt Chand introduced spinner Baba Aparajit into the attack, who dismissed Curtis Patterson. Merrick Buchanan also returned to the pavilion soon. The Australian team had lost four wickets for 38 runs, but from here they handled their innings well and scored 225/8.

Half an hour of bad cricket

India had a bad start while chasing the target of 226 runs. Prashant Chopra was out without opening the account. Chand remained firm on the crease, but his shots were lacking sharpness. He was spending time at the crease. Aparajit meanwhile played some brilliant cover drives and India’s score became 75/1. Then came a bad half hour of cricket, where the Indian innings faltered.

Gurinder Sandhu dismissed Aparajit. After three overs, Ashton Turner showed the way to the pavilion to Hanuma Vihari. Joel Paris put India on the back foot by dismissing Vijay Jol. India was struggling at one time with a score of 97/4.

Unmukt Chand scored a memorable century

Indian captain Unmukt Chand got the support of Samit Patel. Both made a good partnership. Bosisto dropped an easy catch of Patel at deep midwicket. Alex Gregory gave Patel a second lease of life. Three balls later, Chand broke the spirits of the hosts by hitting a six off Gregory’s ball.

Unmukt Chand completed his century. He became the first Indian captain to score a century in the ICC Under-19 World Cup final. India needed 6 runs in the 48th over. Unmukt Chand kept India’s hopes alive and won making them champions. After this, the entire Indian camp went into celebration. Chand was chosen player of the match.

Let us tell you that India won the match by 6 wickets with 14 balls remaining. Unmukt Chand had scored an unbeaten 111 runs in 130 balls with the help of seven fours and six sixes.
