These people, who were with the deceased, a female medical student, on the day of her death, include three junior doctors and one member of the house staff. These employees reportedly had supper with the victim, and the authorities are currently looking for them to find out where they were and what they did after the meal. The body of the 31-year-old trainee doctor was found on the morning of August 9 in a seminar hall at the hospital. Civic volunteer Sanjay Roy was arrested the following day in connection with the crime. The police have charged Roy under sections for rape and murder and have remanded him in custody until August 23.

To demand justice for the deceased female doctor and to urge for improved security and respect for medical workers, a candle march was organized. The demonstrators also demanded that the government put strict safeguards in place for medical professionals.
Stance of the Government and Chief Minister
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, has intervened in the case and ordered that it be expedited in court.
