As of late Monday night, 127 deaths have been officially reported from the earthquake that struck China. In the meantime, over 700 people have suffered injuries. Late on Monday night, the provinces of Gansu and Qinghai experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1. The earthquake’s epicenter was located in Sala County, Linxia Hui, Gansu, ten kilometers below the surface. Pictures and videos from China show how deadly it turned out to be for high-rise buildings in the province.

The duty of safely evacuating people from numerous buildings that were reduced to rubble right after the earthquake has been placed on China’s emergency services. Additionally, all branches of the government and administration have been asked to launch a full-scale operation by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

What about the videos and pictures coming from China?

Local Chinese media has shared images and videos associated with the earthquake that struck Gansu province. In addition to this, some have recounted the horrifying scene. One of these videos—which has gained widespread attention on social media—shows a high-rise building’s room violently shaking. Objects and plaster from the room were also observed shattering and toppling during this period.

Several tall buildings can be seen crumbling in the images that are emerging from China. People were observed during this time running around in search of a safe place and emerging from their homes. Many villages experienced water and electricity shortages as a result of the earthquake, according to the News Agency. In addition, a large number of emergency vehicles are visible rushing through the impacted areas to assist the populace.

A social media post claimed that as soon as the earthquake in Gansu’s capital of Lanzhou was felt, university students emerged from their dorms. Something was going on there. The rescue crew has arrived, according to Chinese media. The search and rescue mission has begun. Quilts, folding beds, and tents are being brought to the location. President Xi Jinping of China has issued directives to expedite the rescue efforts. In addition, he has instructed actions to be taken to lower the number of deaths. The wounded are being brought to the hospital, where they will continue to receive care.
