A Pakistani court reserved its verdict on a petition seeking the remand of former foreign minister and PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The police had sought a 30-day remand of Qureshi in connection with the attack on the military headquarters in Pakistan on May 9. Earlier, Qureshi got bail in the Sifar case but was retaken into custody.

On a motion to remand Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the leader of the Pakistani Turkistan party and former foreign minister, a Pakistani court postponed making a decision. Regarding the attack on the Pakistani military headquarters on May 9, the police had requested a 30-day remand of Qureshi.

What did the prosecution argue?

The prosecution lawyer on Thursday sought remand of the PTI leader from Magistrate Syed Jahangir Ali, saying that in a terrorism case, remand can be given for up to 90 days. The lawyer said that during the riots that broke out after the arrest of Imran Khan in a corruption case in May, Qureshi had called for protest on his social media handle.

At the same time, Shah Mehmood Qureshi told the court that he was mentally and physically tortured for the last few months. He said that he could swear on the Holy Quran that he was not present in Rawalpindi on May 9. He claimed that he was present in Karachi that day.

Misbehavior with Qureshi

Shah Mahmood Qureshi is the vice-chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party (PTI) and is considered very close to Imran Khan. Earlier, Qureshi had got bail in the Sifar case, but he was retaken into custody. During this period he was also misbehaved with by the police officers. PTI termed this move of the police as illegal.

Violence broke out on May 9

Let us tell you that after the arrest of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, thousands of his supporters attacked military and government establishments across the country on May 9. Since then, many PTI workers including Imran Khan are facing various cases for attacking military establishments and government buildings.
