Rwanda Deportation Bill: The British Parliament finally approved the Rwanda Deportation Bill after two months of hesitation. This has brought a lot of relief to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak before the general elections.
PM Sunak expressed hope that flights to Rwanda would start by July. The Rwanda Bill aims to stop refugees arriving in Britain illegally. Under this, illegal refugees will be sent to Rwanda, for this a treaty has been signed with the government there.
The British government has also made some advance payment to Rwanda for this. Under the proposal, refugees would be able to apply for British citizenship after being deported to Rwanda. Those who get approval will settle in Britain, but those whose applications are rejected will be sent back to their country.
According to the report, in the year 2022, 45,744 illegal refugees arrived in Britain by crossing the English Channel in small boats. This bill was stuck in the House of Lords, the upper house of Britain. At last, early on Tuesday, he accepted the primacy of the elected House of Commons. Earlier on Monday morning, PM Sunak held a surprise press conference and appealed to the House of Lords not to stop the Rwanda Bill.
