A retired US police chief was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison in Washington. He has been sentenced for his participation in the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Found guilty in four cases
Alan Hostetter, 59, was convicted in July of four counts, including conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding and disorderly conduct with a deadly or dangerous weapon in a restricted building.
On January 6, 2021, hundreds of Trump supporters invaded the Capitol Building, home of the US Congress, to try to disrupt the official certification of Joe Biden’s victory over Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. Hostetter was expected to begin his tenure in January.
Names of more than 1200 people included
The Justice Department said more than 1,230 people have been charged so far with crimes related to the riot. More than 720 of them have been convicted and more than 450 of them will have to serve prison sentences. Trump, who had not been directly implicated in the incident, had given an inflammatory speech to supporters near the White House before the riot.
A congressional commission investigating those incidents recommended criminal charges against Trump in December 2022. It specifically recommended an investigation into charges in the case of supporting rebellion and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
