Mercedes-Benz India is targeting a major sales push for its luxury Maybach brand, with the EQS 680 SUV as the centerpiece. Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, emphasized that India is not only among the top 10 markets globally but is also the fastest-growing for Maybach. The company is optimistic about India becoming one of the top five markets for Maybach in terms of sales volume.
In order to take the lead in the electric and digital mobility space, especially in the ultra-luxury market, the EQS 680 SUV was introduced. Iyer stated that the brand hopes to sell more than 100 EQS 680 SUVs in the current fiscal year, adding that the SUV is anticipated to propel tremendous growth.
Expanding the Electric Portfolio
Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to electric vehicles (EVs) is evident in its expanding portfolio, which now includes five battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in India: the EQA, EQB, EQE SUV, EQS sedan, and the newly launched Maybach EQS 680 SUV. The company’s BEV offerings are witnessing steady growth, with a notable increase in electric vehicle penetration—from 2.5% last year to 5% in the first half of FY25.
Iyer emphasized that although the EQS sedan is the best-selling electric vehicle (EV) in India at the moment, the introduction of the EQS Maybach SUV marks a substantial improvement to the premium BEV market and is consistent with the company’s objective of building a complete BEV ecosystem.

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV blends unparalleled luxury with state-of-the-art electric technology. The vehicle’s design reflects Maybach’s iconic styling, including a prominent Mercedes star on the hood, vertical chrome accents, and continuous light strip rear lights. The SUV offers a range of customization options, including two-tone paintwork and high-quality design elements that underscore its exclusivity.
The EQS 680 SUV’s interior combines contemporary technology with classic elegance. With its “zero layer” interface, the MBUX Hyperscreen provides a smooth and simple user experience. Thanks to amenities like two 11.6-inch screens, MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment, and exclusive Maybach Nappa leather, rear passengers have extraordinary comfort.
Mercedes-Benz has also introduced sustainable innovations, such as vegetable-tanned Nappa leather, which uses coffee bean shells as tanning agents. This process eliminates the need for salt and reduces the vehicle’s overall environmental impact.

The EQS 680 SUV boasts impressive technical specifications, including a WLTP range of up to 611 km, a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of just 4.4 seconds, and a top speed of 210 km/h. The vehicle’s Airmatic air suspension system ensures a smooth ride, while rear-axle steering enhances maneuverability. An exclusive MAYBACH driving program prioritizes rear passenger comfort, further enhancing the ride quality.
Charging is efficient, with the EQS SUV capable of reaching 80% charge in just 31 minutes at fast-charging stations. It can add 300 km of range in just 20 minutes, making long journeys more convenient.
