A former deputy superintendent of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital said that he had alerted the vigilance agency, along with others, about Ghosh’s illicit actions in 2023, but that no action had been done.
Sandip Ghosh, who resigned as principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata after raping and killing a 31-year-old trainee doctor on the campus, is alleged by a former deputy superintendent to have engaged in a number of illicit activities, including the trafficking of medical waste, the sale of unclaimed bodies, and the acceptance of bribes from students.
Akhtar Ali said in a interview that Ghosh operated a nexus out of the hospital and made millions of rupees through illicit means. In 2023, Ali had alerted the vigilance agency and others about Ghosh’s illicit actions, but nothing was done about it. Rather, he was moved out of RG Kar Hospital as a result of being the informant.
“I’ve reported Ghosh in a complaint. He would receive lakhs from this facility while being a crook. I was ignored at the time. I will now also go before the court,” he declared.
Claims made against Ghosh:
According to Ali, who spoke, Ghosh supplied his Bangladeshi friends with biomedical waste, including syringes and gloves. This was clearly against the regulations, which stipulate that such material can only be given to facilities that have been approved for appropriate handling and recycling.
In addition, the former deputy superintendent charged the former principal with unclaimed body sales and with taking a 20 percent fee on all hospital bids. To help them pass the tests, he would demand money from pupils who had not passed. This controversy claimed some pupils as victims, he said.
Ali stated that Sanjoy Roy, the accused in the case, was a member of the previous principal’s security detail in a different interview with India Today.
The allegations began when the Kolkata Police opened an investigation on August 20 against Ghosh for his alleged involvement in “financial irregularities” in the state-run medical facility, a senior official who spoke to PTI said. The inquiry into Ghosh began when a Special inquiry Team (SIT) consisting of four members was established to examine the hospital’s alleged financial irregularities.
The postgraduate trainee doctor’s body was discovered in the seminar hall at the government-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. The next day, Sanjay Roy, a volunteer for the community, was taken into custody in relation to the crime. The CBI was thereafter given the case by the Calcutta High Court.
Prof. (Dr.) Sandip Ghosh is said to be so strong that he was moved twice to different hospitals but was quickly brought back as Principal of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The appeal claims that despite endangering the lives of state residents, Prof. (Dr.) Sandip Ghosh is protected because of the support of political figures and higher authorities in this state.
The petitioner claims that the Tala Police Station received a complaint, but they declined to file a complaint against the principal who was fired.

There are significant problems at hand that might endanger public health. Given the involvement of several powerful individuals in this state, the State police authority is unable to conduct a thorough and unbiased investigation into the problem. The plea claims that a thorough investigation of the situation is necessary for the protection of the innocent.
In his plea, Ali also claimed that because he was facing such a strong person, his life was in danger and that the court would have to protect it.
Suhrita Paul became principal when?
Protests against Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Hospital, had became more intense after the horrific occurrence in Kolkata sparked indignation. Amidst mounting dissatisfaction, Sandeep Ghosh tendered his resignation and Suhrita Paul was named the new Principal. Nevertheless, subsequent to more student protests, Paul was dismissed from her role a few days later.
Doctor rape and murder case in Kolkata
The fact that a postgraduate trainee doctor was reportedly raped and killed on August 9 while working at the hospital is relevant in this case. The 32-year-old woman’s half naked corpse was later found at the government-run hospital in Kolkata’s lecture hall. In connection with the incident, a community volunteer was placed under arrest the next day. Following that, the Kolkata Police’s investigation into the matter was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation by the Calcutta High Court.
