NZ vs AUS The first day’s play of the second Test between New Zealand and Australia concluded in Christchurch. The fast bowlers of both the teams wreaked havoc at Hagley Oval and took a total of 14 wickets. New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and Tim Southee could not make their 100th Test special. However, compared to New Zealand, Australia had the upper hand on the first day.

The first day’s play between New Zealand and Australia concluded in Christchurch on Friday. The first day was dominated by fast bowlers, who took a total of 14 wickets.

New Zealand batted first and its first innings was limited to 162 runs in 45.2 overs. In reply, Australia scored 124 runs losing 4 wickets in 36 overs till stumps. At the time of stumps, Marnus Labuschagne was at the crease with 45* and Nathan Lyon 1*. The Australian team is currently 38 runs behind New Zealand’s score with 6 wickets left.

Williamson-Southee’s 100th test

New Zealand’s two greats Kane Williamson and Tim Southee came to play their 100th Test. Both the legends came to the field with their children and celebrated the 100th Test. Kane Williamson could not make his 100th Test special and returned to the pavilion after being out on 17 runs. Tim Southee scored 26 runs.

Hazlewood-Starc wreaked havoc

Australian fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood (5 wickets) and Mitchell Starc (3 wickets) bowled lethally and restricted New Zealand to a low score. Hazlewood took five wickets in an innings of a Test match for the 12th time. Starc overtook Dennis Lillee and became the fourth bowler to take the most Test wickets for Australia.

Hazlewood made Tom Latham (38), Kane Williamson (17), Rachin Ravindra (4), Darich Mitchell (4) and Matt Henry (29) his victims. At the same time, Starc took the wickets of Will Young (14), Glenn Phillips (2) and Tim Southee (29).

Ben Sears got his dream debut

After New Zealand, Australia also did not have a good start. Ben Sears gave the first blow to Australia by dismissing Steve Smith (11) LBW. After this, Matt Henry made Usman Khawaja (16), Cameron Green (25) and Travis Head (21) his victims. It will be interesting to see which team will be in the driving seat on the second day.
