Two teenagers from North Korea have been sentenced to 12 years in prison for watching K-pop. In some ways, harsh punishment for 16-year-old teenagers served as a strong warning to the entire North Korean population. North Korean authorities captured a video of two students being handcuffed in a large public area while approximately 1,000 students watched.
Two teenagers in North Korea have been sentenced to 12 years of hard labor for watching K-pop music. The South and North Development (SAND) Institute has also released video footage of two 16-year-olds being sentenced publicly in Pyongyang.

Choi Kyong-hui, president of SAND and a doctor of political science at the University of Tokyo, stated that South Korean culture appears to be widespread in North Korean society. He claimed that North Korean youth have changed their way of thinking.
Handcuffs worn
North Korean authorities captured a video of two students wearing grey scrubs being handcuffed in a large public venue while approximately 1,000 students watched in an amphitheater. All of the students, including two 16-year-olds, were wearing face masks, indicating that the footage was taken during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the video, the students were sentenced after pleading guilty to three months of watching and sharing South Korean films, music, and music videos.
