Quinton de Kock’s excellent form continues in the ICC World Cup 2023. Even in the match being played against New Zealand in Pune, De Kock created a ruckus with the bat. The wicketkeeper-batsman batted brilliantly and scored his fourth century in the tournament. With this, De Kock has also become the first batsman to cross the 500-run mark in this World Cup.

De Kock broke Sangakkara’s record

Quinton de Kock shattered Kumar Sangakkara’s big record. De Kock has now become the batsman who has scored the most runs in a single season of the ODI World Cup as a wicketkeeper. The opening batsman has scored a total of 545 runs in the 7 matches played so far. Kumar Sangakkara had scored 541 runs in the World Cup played in 2015. Whereas, in 2007, Adam Gilchrist had scored 453 runs. De Kock has gone ahead of both Sangakkara and Gilchrist.

De Kock’s fourth century of the World Cup matched former Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara’s record of four tonnes in a single edition of the tournament set in 2015.

In the CWC 2023, De Kock scored centuries against Sri Lanka, Australia, Bangladesh, and New Zealand.

Four years later, in the 2019 World Cup in England, India opener Rohit Sharma broke the record with five hundreds.

History created in the World Cup

Quinton de Kock has now scored 545 runs in 7 matches played in the World Cup 2023. De Kock has also become the first South African batsman to score 500 or more runs in the 50-over World Cup. Before de Kock, this record was in the name of Jacques Kallis, who had scored 485 runs for South Africa in one season of the World Cup in 2007. Whereas, AB de Villiers scored 482 runs in 2015. De Kock has left both the legendary players behind together.
