Nintendo has surprised fans yet again with a new piece of hardware that’s bound to change the way you wake up. Introducing Alarmo, an interactive alarm clock designed to add a splash of fun to your morning routine. Priced at $99.99, Alarmo is set to hit the market in early 2025. However, for those who subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online in the U.S. and Canada, there’s good news: you can purchase it right now through the My Nintendo Store. This innovative gadget might not be the much-anticipated successor to the Switch, but it brings Nintendo’s beloved characters and sounds into your daily life, making waking up an adventure.
An Innovative Alarm Experience
Alarmo is not just any ordinary alarm clock; it’s packed with features that respond to your movements. Imagine being able to snooze your alarm simply by waving your hand or stopping it altogether by actually getting out of bed! The device employs motion sensor technology, allowing it to react to your movements in an engaging way.
Nintendo has tapped into its vast library of iconic games to curate an immersive audio experience. With 35 different scenes inspired by popular titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 3, Pikmin 4, and Ring Fit Adventure, waking up can feel like a mini-adventure. You’ll rise to the delightful sounds of the Mushroom Kingdom, embark on a quest with Link, or get ready for a colorful day with the Inklings. And that’s just scratching the surface!

A Peek into the Development
Interestingly, Nintendo has shared some behind-the-scenes details about the development of Alarmo. Early prototypes of the clock showcased a more boxy design in gray, featuring a dot matrix LED display reminiscent of the now-discontinued Echo Dot with Clock. However, the team decided to abandon this design, as they felt it wouldn’t adequately communicate the product’s unique features, such as the motion sensor.
In their pursuit of a more user-friendly design, Nintendo created another prototype that looked similar to the final product we see today. This version had the alarm clock’s “brain” in the base, while the LCD screen and speaker were placed above. However, usability concerns arose, particularly for left-handed users, which prompted the final design to centralize all controls on the top for easier access.
Fun Features to Start Your Day Right
Alarmo aims to transform your mornings into a delightful experience. Once the alarm goes off, a character from your selected game appears on screen, accompanied by gentle sounds unique to that game. If you remain in bed, the character will return periodically, making waking up an engaging experience. The interactions will include familiar game sounds, like coins clinking, and you can control the volume simply by moving your body.
But that’s not all! Alarmo offers two distinct modes for waking up. Steady Mode gradually increases the alarm’s intensity the longer you stay in bed, while Gentle Mode maintains a consistent volume. For those who prefer a traditional experience, there’s also Button Mode, which allows you to hit a snooze button like any standard alarm clock.
Nintendo has also included a feature called Records, where you can track how much you move around in your sleep. Want to wind down before bed? Alarmo allows you to set soothing sounds or music to help you relax as you prepare for sleep.
Compatibility and Future Updates
When it comes to placement, Alarmo is designed for twin to king-sized beds. It should be placed with the face of the bed facing the sleeper, at arm’s length, and no more than eight inches above the bed. If you share a bed, it’s recommended to use Button Mode for a smoother experience.
One of the most exciting aspects of Alarmo is that Nintendo plans to release free updates that will introduce additional scenes from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This ensures that your waking experience can evolve over time, keeping it fresh and exciting.
Privacy Assurance
In an age where privacy is a major concern, Nintendo has reassured potential buyers that Alarmo will not collect any personal data. The device does not communicate any information to Nintendo, ensuring that your morning routine remains your own.
While many fans eagerly await news about the next console from Nintendo, the company’s focus on innovative and charming devices like Alarmo shows that they are committed to enhancing everyday experiences. By combining nostalgic sounds, delightful interactions, and user-friendly features, Alarmo is set to bring a playful touch to your mornings.
So, if you’re ready to transform the way you wake up and add a bit of joy to your daily routine, keep an eye out for Alarmo. With its blend of nostalgia and technology, this unique alarm clock could be the perfect addition to your home, making waking up something you actually look forward to!
