Actor Tamannaah Bhatia was called by the Maharashtra cyber cell on Thursday. It is said that Bhatia was involved in promoting the viewing of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches on Fairplay, a platform that is a subsidiary of the Mahadev online gaming and betting program. The actress is well-known from Netflix’s Lust Stories 2 and the film Baahubali. The actress has reportedly been called to appear before the cyber personnel from Maharashtra on April 29.
Cyber Cell had already recorded the statements of the managers of actors Sanjay Dutt and Jacqueline Fernandez, as well as artist Badshah, in this case.
What is an Illegal IPL Streaming Case?
This is an instance of the Indian Premier League being streamed illegally using the FairPlay app, which was not granted authorization by Viacom 18, the company that controlled the exclusive broadcasting rights for the well-known cricket competition. Due to their purported endorsement and promotion of the FairPlay app, the actors and actresses implicated in this lawsuit are being paid.
According to sources, Viacom 18 suffered significant losses as a result of the illicit streaming. The FairPlay app is available for free on both the Android and iOS operating systems, and it functions as a betting platform specifically tailored for the Indian market. A range of sports and entertainment options are available for recreational gambling on the betting exchange site.
The actors were called in because they were purportedly advocating and promoting the FairPlay app, which was broadcasting the 2023 IPL matches illegally.
The popular cricket tournament’s exclusive broadcasting rights were controlled by Viacom 18, from which the app lacked approval.
The broadcaster suffered enormous losses as a result of the suspected unlawful streaming.
Developed for the Indian market, the FairPlay app functions as a betting platform and can be downloaded for free on both the iOS and Android operating systems.
There is a large selection of sports and entertainment wagering available on the betting exchange platform.
On FairPlay, cricket is the most popular sport, followed by football and tennis. According to the website, “watch and win at the same time,” all of the matches are available for live streaming on FairPlay for the convenience of the player.
A spinoff of the Mahadev online gambling app, FairPlay offers unauthorised betting on sports including chance games, football card games, tennis, and cricket.
Last year, the Mahadev betting application gained attention due to the participation of Shraddha and Ranbir Kapoor, who starred in advertisements for the app. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) called both of them in to be questioned.
Investigative authorities began to focus on the app following the all-cash wedding in the United Arab Emirates in February of last year, which cost Rs 200 crore.
