Under Project Elephant, a campaign to prevent attacks will be run in about 22 states where elephants move. Trial is already going on in Odisha and Chhattisgarh. To stop the increasing conflict between elephants and humans, the Ministry of Forest and Environment is now preparing to launch a big campaign under Project Elephant in about 22 states where they move. Whose outline is almost ready. In which the villages adjacent to the forest will be connected to the early alert system, which will alert them if the movement of elephants increases around the village.

Sirens and sensors will be installed in villages

During this time, sirens and sensors will be installed in the affected villages, which will alert everyone by making loud noises when elephants arrive. Along with this, the forest department will also get information about the movement of elephants immediately through sensors. Along with this, another big initiative of the Forest Department is to develop understanding among the people regarding elephants. So that they do not attack elephants but help in preserving them.

Officials associated with the project say that under this initiative people will be told that the elephant is a very peace-loving animal. He does not attack anyone unless he is provoked. They come out of the forest only when they cannot get enough food in the forest. In such a situation, the Ministry has planned to expand the Seed Child Campaign being run in Odisha and Chhattisgarh across the country. Under which elephants’ favorite food like bamboo and seeds of other plants should be made into balls of soil and thrown across the forest. Which will grow on their own when it rains. With this, the elephants will get sufficient food in the forest itself in the coming days.

Decision taken after the death of people

The ministry has also prepared to take the help of villagers in this campaign. Because he keeps going to the forest for some work or the other, in such a situation, when he goes to the forest, he should also throw some seed balls in those areas. Recently, Rahul Gandhi, who came to console some people after the death of some people due to elephant attack in Wayanad, Kerala, drew the Centre’s attention towards this issue. After which Union Forest and Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav visited there along with his entire team. Discussed with local people and forest officials.

Plan to move projects forward

He also assured everyone that all measures including technology will be taken to protect them from elephants. According to sources, after this the Ministry gathered information about the experiments going on in different parts of the country in this direction. In which a plan has been made to move forward with these projects which are running on trial basis in some parts of Odisha and Chhattisgarh. More than six hundred people lost their lives in elephant attacks in the year 2022-23.
