Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies have claimed to have foiled a major terror plot to target key installations in Punjab province. The agencies said they have arrested thirteen terrorists, most of whom are linked to the banned Islamic State (ISIS) and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Police gave this information on Saturday.
According to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab Police, it conducted 83 intelligence-based operations in various districts of the province to effectively deal with any untoward incident of terrorism. It arrested 13 suspected terrorists with weapons, explosives, and other prohibited materials. Arrested him.
The CTD said the arrested terrorists are associated with ISIS (Daesh), TTP, Tehreek Jafri Pakistan, and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi terrorist groups. Anti-terrorism police said the arrests were made during intelligence-based operations in Rawalpindi, Attock, Bahawal Nagar, Lahore, Jhelum, Sheikhpura and Bahawalpur districts of Punjab.
Police recovered about 5 kg of explosives, one IED bomb, 29 detonators, 49 feet of protective fuse wire, Prima cards, one pistol, and one SMG rifle with 80 bullets, and banned literature from the possession of the terrorists. The CTD said the terrorists had planned sabotage across the province and wanted to target vital establishments, which was foiled by the law enforcement agency.
Police have registered eight cases against the arrested terrorists and they have been taken to an undisclosed location for questioning. Last month, the CTD arrested around 30 terrorists of banned outfits, mostly ISIS and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), during operations in different areas of Punjab.
