Google’s Senior Vice President (Devices and Services) Rick Osterlow said that he is going to join Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Make in India initiative. Under this, Google will collaborate with local Indian manufacturers to create Pixel phones there. Pixel’s first priority market is India.
Google’s owned company Alphabet Inc. has announced the manufacturing of its Pixel smartphones in India. These Make in India phones will be available from the year 2024. In its ninth ‘Google for India’ event, the company on Thursday said it will start production of its latest smartphone Pixel 8 in India. It has been launched only in October.

Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, ‘Now the environment in the country has matured, people have developed confidence in it.’ He said that till 9 years ago, 98 percent of smartphones were being imported into India, but now electronic production has increased due to PM Modi’s Digital India, Make in India, and Startup India initiatives. India has established itself as a reliable partner in the global value chain of manufacturing.
Vaishnav claimed that 9 years ago electronics production in the country was negligible, and mobile manufacturing was also almost nonexistent. All of the major electronics manufacturers, including Google, are currently visiting India. Domestic production is rising as a result. Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai reiterated the new announcement on X, writing that they are committed to becoming a trusted partner in India’s digital progress. Alphabet said that it will start selling metro rail tickets from the Google Map app. Apart from this, it was also announced to provide small loans of Rs 15,000 to businessmen through the non-banking institution DMI Finance on Google Pay. The company is already giving loans. Soon she will be able to give loans through UPI.
