In a significant leap forward for cancer treatment, Microsoft has forged a partnership with Paige, the world’s largest digital pathology company, to harness the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Together, they are set to create the largest AI model ever developed.
This groundbreaking AI model will be instrumental in comprehending the intricate complexities of cancer and will lay the foundation for computational biomarkers that will redefine the boundaries of oncology and pathology. Notably, the AI model will possess the capacity to identify various types of cancer, encompassing both common cancers and the exceptionally rare ones that have proven to be exceptionally challenging to treat.
Desney Tan, Vice President and Managing Director of Microsoft Health Futures expressed the significance of this endeavor, stating, “We are forging ahead to establish new AI models that will make unparalleled contributions to our understanding of cancer. Paige, recognized as a leader in end-to-end digital pathology solutions and clinical AI, has already pioneered the creation of the first extensive foundational model, leveraging over a billion images. In its next undertaking, Paige is set to utilize a staggering four billion digital microscopy slides to further advance its AI model.
